Method
use vpn
A virtual private network (VPN) creates a secure, encrypted tunnel between the device and the Internet. This keeps the data safe from hackers. Use a reliable VPN service before connecting to public Wi-Fi. There are many free and paid VPNs available, use it.
turn off file sharing
Many devices have file sharing or network discovery turned on by default. On public Wi-Fi, this feature can give unknown people access to the device. Turn off features like file sharing and AirDrop on Windows, Mac or smartphone.
Turn off auto connect feature
Auto-connect feature may be turned on in the phone or laptop, due to which the device automatically connects to the already connected network. This feature may be convenient, but the risk can be significant on public Wi-Fi. If the hacker copies the name of the old network, the device can connect to it without asking. Turn off auto-connect by going to your device's Settings. 'Forget' the network after use.
Use of secure web
Whenever possible, visit only websites that use the HTTPS protocol. These encrypt the data, making it difficult for hackers to read it. Look for HTTPS in the website's URL and a lock symbol in the browser's address bar. If a website uses HTTP, avoid entering personal information.
check network
Always ask the staff at that place for the official network name and password. For example, if you are in a cafe, be careful with similar names. Hackers often create fake hotspots by mimicking real networks.
