Reels and shorts are a threat to children's concentration and development

In today's digital age, where the trend of online education is increasing. At the same time, short video platforms like Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts have become extremely popular among children. Excess screen time affects children's concentration and ability to focus. Their development is affected.

How is concentration being affected?

1. Quick dopamine release Short videos change rapidly and trigger the brain to repeatedly release dopamine (a pleasure-giving hormone), which reduces children's tolerance.

2. Lack of patience Children have trouble learning slowly or focusing on a subject for a long time.

3. Lack of deep thinking Constantly watching short and superficial content reduces children's ability to think deeply and pay attention to complex subjects.

4. Addiction like a drug Short videos keep running in a loop, children scroll for hours without thinking, which becomes an addiction. The brain forces us to scroll again and again in the craving for dopamine.

What could be the solutions?

1. Control screen time. Fix a fixed time for screen time for children and strictly follow it.

2. Choose quality content. Encourage children to watch educational and informative videos.

3. Give them tasks that require long-term concentration - include them in activities like studying, writing and listening to stories, antakshari, solving puzzles and art and music.

4. Do digital detox - Keep a complete distance from digital devices for a few hours or days in a week. Parents should explain to children the usefulness of digital detox like fasting or keeping Roza.
