Be sure to change your toothbrush after recovering from the flu, viral infection, or any other infection.
We often brush our teeth every morning and evening, assuming we've taken complete care of our oral health. But have you ever considered that your toothbrush itself can be a source of infection? A toothbrush is a tool that comes into contact with our mouths daily. If proper cleaning and use are neglected, it can contribute to problems like bacterial infections, gum inflammation, and bad breath.

1. Always rinse your toothbrush before and after brushing to remove any dust or bacteria that may have accumulated on it.

2. People often leave their toothbrushes in the bathroom, where moisture and microbes are the most abundant. Airborne bacteria can also accumulate after flushing. Therefore, always keep your toothbrush in a dry, closed place.

3. It's important to change your toothbrush every three to four months. Over time, the bristles of the toothbrush wear down and bacteria begin to accumulate. Replace children's toothbrushes frequently.

4. If the toothbrush bristles are bent, broken, or discolored, it's time to replace the toothbrush. Prolonged use of a toothbrush can increase oral problems.

5. If you have recently had an infection, such as the flu, typhoid, a cold, or a sore throat, throw away your old toothbrush immediately. Using the same toothbrush can cause recurrence.

6. If the toothbrush smells bad or has a mold-like coating, it could be a sign of infection.

Keep these things in mind:

  • Soak your toothbrush in antiseptic mouthwash or warm water for 1-2 minutes every week; this kills bacteria.
  • Two people should not use the same brush or brush holder.
  • Always keep the brush upright so it doesn't remain damp.
