Make organic fertilizer at home for your garden using this method

Can you use the peels of vegetables and fruits to make natural fertilizer for your garden? Making fertilizer from these peels is not only beneficial for the environment, but your garden will also get nutrition and love...

What is organic fertilizer?

Organic fertilizer is prepared from peels of fruits and vegetables, dry leaves and tea leaves etc. This fertilizer does not harm the plants like chemical fertilizers, rather it gradually increases the fertility of the soil and improves the health of the plants. The soil becomes soft and water-retentive.

Things You Will Need

  • Fruit and vegetable peels
  • Dry leaves or cocopeat
  • Cow dung manure or soil
  • Perforated bucket
  • Container
  • Water

Method

Spread a dry layer at the bottom of the container (dry leaves or cocopeat). Add the peels of fruits and vegetables. Put a layer of soil or cow dung manure on top. Sprinkle water (not too much). Repeat this process again and again until the container is full. Keep the container in the shade. Stir the mixture every 5-7 days. The fertilizer will be ready in 45-60 days.

If you need fertilizer quickly...
Dry the peels in the sun and make a powder. Mix it in the soil and keep it for 4-5 days. Pour it on the plants. The effect will be seen soon.

How to make liquid organic fertilizer?

Cut the peels into small pieces. Put them in a jar and fill it with water. Close the lid and leave it for 5-7 days. Then filter and pour that water on the plants. To decompose the peels quickly, add 2 teaspoons of gram flour and a little jaggery to the mixture.

Which peels for which plant?

Watermelon-muslin peels
are rich in water. They maintain the moisture of the soil. Cut these peels and spread them near the roots of the plants. Weeds will also not grow.

Papaya peels
They contain potassium and phosphorus. Soak in water and pour that water in the plants after 2 days.

Onion peels
Contains iron, magnesium as well as pesticides. Make liquid fertilizer and filter it and add it.

Banana and mango peels
Mix banana and mango peels in the ratio of 1:4 and make liquid fertilizer and add it once a week.

Keep in mind:
Do not add peels in large quantity at once, otherwise the soil may become acidic. Use limited amount of liquid fertilizer in indoor plants. Because it can attract insects. For indoor plants, add half a teaspoon of turmeric/cinnamon powder in the liquid fertilizer.
