Who participated in the study?

The study involved individuals aged 35 to 50 who had completed multiple marathons and ultra-running events. Examinations revealed the presence of colon polyps in several participants. In some cases, these polyps were in an advanced stage, potentially increasing the future risk of cancer. However, no cases of colon cancer were detected.

Why does excessive running increase this risk?

During prolonged running, a significant portion of the body's blood flow is diverted to the muscles. This can reduce the supply of blood and oxygen to the intestines.

Recognizing signs of poor gut health

If you experience recurring issues such as bloating, constipation, acidity, cramps, pain, or blood in the stool after long-distance running or strenuous exercise, these symptoms should not be dismissed as normal. The research also clarified that standard running and regular exercise remain beneficial for the body.
