How to prepare and use...
Roast the required ingredients in a pan or dry skillet until hot and fragrant. (Do not overheat.) Place them in a clean cotton cloth. Tie the cloth tightly to form a small, or as needed, bundle.
A special bundle is prepared from the herbs and spices, depending on the condition. It is heated in a hot pan, hot oil, or steam and then applied to the affected area.
For the Common Cold
This potli typically contains a blend of natural, aromatic herbs and essential oils, which help clear a blocked nose, relieve symptoms like heaviness in the head, and reduce inflammation. Common ingredients in this potli include celery, camphor, eucalyptus leaves, cloves, basil leaves, dried ginger, and black cumin.
For Migraine: Make it like this:
Celery - 2 tablespoons
Cloves - 4 to 5 cloves
Rock salt - 2 tablespoons
Dried ginger powder - 1 teaspoon
Dried basil leaves
Slightly warm the potli and gently apply it to the forehead, temples, neck, and sinus area.
Celery Potli
The use of celery potli is considered beneficial for both digestive and respiratory health. It provides great relief, especially for coughs, colds, and congestion. The aromatic steam emanating from the heated celery potli opens the nose and loosens phlegm. It helps open the bronchial tubes, making breathing easier and reducing swelling. It also helps with digestive problems like flatulence, gas, and colic in infants.
Using Celery Potli for Children
For infants (under 1 year of age)...
Place the potli at a distance near the child's bed. Its scent provides relief from nasal congestion.
For young children...
Gently apply a warm compress to the child's chest, back, feet, and palms.
Potli for Period Pain (Menstrual Colic):
This potli is extremely beneficial for severe menstrual cramps, abdominal tightness, bloating, and discomfort. Apply the warm compress to the abdomen or affected area with gentle pressure for 10-15 minutes.
Period pain compresses include dried ginger (dry ginger), flax seeds, fenugreek seeds, and celery.
Shoolahar compress:
Potli Sweda is an important Ayurvedic sweating therapy in which medicinal substances are tied in a cotton or muslin cloth and the body is induced to sweat using the compress, providing therapeutic benefits. It is prepared by mixing herbs with medicinal oils and salts. Treatment is tailored to the patient's condition and the condition.

Various Types of Potli Sweda
Patra Potli Sweda
- Fresh medicinal leaves such as Nirgudi, Castor, Aranda, Dhatura, etc. are used. Highly effective for muscle and nerve disorders such as arthritis, sciatica, frozen shoulder, etc. Reduces Vaivana, swelling, and stiffness.
Churna Pind Sweda
This uses dried medicinal powders such as fenugreek, mustard, and flaxseeds. Beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis, obesity, and inflammatory conditions.
Shashtik Shali Pind Sweda
This is a highly nutritious Sweda. A special type of rice, Shashtik Shali rice, is cooked in milk and Baladi decoction. It is beneficial for muscle weakness/conditions.
