This is how you can increase the life of SSD

Solid State Drives (SSDs) are an important part of data storage in computers and laptops. Due to high speed, low power consumption and durability, SSDs are preferred over traditional hard disk drives (HDDs). Know how to increase the life of SSD.

Why do SSDs fail?

Excessive storage:

Filling up an SSD completely affects its performance. When the drive is full, the number of available cells decreases, causing frequent data overwriting and reducing the life of the drive.

Excessive heat:

High temperatures (above 70 degrees Celsius) can damage the memory cells and controller chip of the SSD.

Sudden power cuts:

Sudden power outages can damage it, especially in consumer-grade drives that do not have energy lost security feature.

Long-term storage of data:

If the SSD is saved without power for a long time (one-two years), the data may get corrupted.

Defragmentation:

Defragmentation may be useful for traditional hard drives, but on SSDs it increases unnecessary write cycles, which can reduce the life of the drive.

How to take care of SSD!

Keep 10-20 percent space free Always

keep at least 10-20 percent space free in your SSD. This helps wear leveling to work smoothly and maintains the performance of the drive.

Temperature control:

Keep your computer or laptop in a well-ventilated place. Avoid using the laptop on soft surfaces (such as a bed), as it obstructs the flow of air. In a desktop, keep the SSD away from heat-producing components (such as GPU). Using a small heatsink can also be helpful.

Power security:

Use a surge protector or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to avoid sudden power cuts. Shut it down properly.

Check SSD health:

Use tools like CrystalDiskInfo, Samsung Magician or Western Digital Dashboard to monitor the SSD's health.

Firmware update:

Update the SSD's firmware regularly from the manufacturer's website. This fixes bugs.
