Limited system integration

The main attraction of AI PCs is their neural processing unit (NPU), but even Surface laptops from brands like Microsoft fail to provide the expected level of local AI integration. For example, Copilot does not handle even simple tasks like file search or storage management perfectly. Most AI chatbots are unable to connect deeply into the operating system due to limited integration, which limits usage.

Higher price, less utility

AI PCs cost more than normal laptops because they include NPUs and new chips like Lunar Lake. However, these features, such as photo correction, live captions or background blur, are already available on normal PCs as well, which makes their price not seem reasonable.

Local processing

Companies claim AI PCs enhance privacy and speed through local data processing, but current NPUs are not powerful enough to enable complex tasks like image generation or voice transcription to be completely local. Cloud-based tools like ChatGPT and Gemini still offer more accurate and efficient solutions for these tasks.

Limited benefits

AI PCs are getting a lot of hype, but they are not a game-changer for the average user. Most people do tasks like web browsing, email, and office work that can be handled easily on regular PCs. AI features like Microsoft Copilot are cloud-based and work on regular PCs too. Features like Windows Studio Effects or Recall may be useful, but not unique enough to warrant spending on new hardware. AI PCs are the technology of the future, but right now it doesn't seem necessary to buy them.
